Apartments and Pets

Personally, I feel that apartment complexes are charging people far too much to have a pet in their apartment. While the complexes are looking out for the their property (thinking we cats and dogs will tear up the place) and their tenants (I agree, dogs are loud), there is little concern for the animals that live on the street and in shelters. I don't think it is unreasonable for complexes to charge some sum, but the costs of housing a pet in most complexes discourage people from getting pets (or at least being honest that they have five cats in their apartment!). That equates to more cats and dogs suffering injuries, abuse, illness, and death. I don't really expect complexes to stop charging exorbitant amounts to house a pet, but my proposal is that apartment complexes should donate a portion of that amount to animal shelters and hospitals, or encourage initiatives that support spaying/neutering so less cats and dogs need will need an apartment in the first place!

DO NOT spay or neuter your pet! How would you like it if someone did that to you?
